Canadian Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It’s a perfect time of year to take some time and thank God for all the things He has done, for who He is, and what He has given us. To help us do that, today I share with you 10 Best Bible Verses about Thanksgiving.
10 Best Bible Verses about Thanksgiving
1. Grace causes Thanksgiving
And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.2 Corinthians 4: 13-15
I love these verses because it highlights God’s work in people and the church. When we see good things happening in other people’s lives or churches, it should cause us to give thanks to The Lord.
Seeing God’s work in others is a sure way to increase our thanksgiving and gives us more opportunity to see The Lord work around us.
2. Sing about what The Lord has done
Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! 9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! 10 Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!1 Chronicles 16: 8-10
I love to sing and love to sing to The Lord even more. When I’m not sure what words to use or how to express myself to God, I know there is a song I can sing that will help me do that.
Singing can be used to help us remember what The lord has done and what His words say. But, singing can also help us worship and praise The Lord. So let’s lift up our hands together as we sing to The Lord.

3. Praise The Lord
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2 While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.Psalm 146:1-2
This verse reminds me that it’s always a good time to praise The Lord. Regardless of what is going on around us, we can take time to praise The Lord.
4. Enter The Presence of God
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generationsPsalm 100:4-5
Even though I’ve been saved for many years, I sometimes forget that when I pray and worship The Lord, I am in His presence.
We have access to The Throne of Grace, we can stand in the presence of The Most High God. Do we take advantage of that? I know I don’t as much as I want to and is an area I can grow in.
5. Rejoice Always
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;Philippians 4: 4-6
I’m a huge fan of psychology and it is well known that stopping a certain behaviour is almost impossible to do. (That’s why the campaign to “just say no” to drugs didn’t work) The best way to stop a behaviour is to replace it with something else.
We see this in scripture. This verse is telling us to replace our worry and anxiety with thanksgiving. This is harder to do than to say.
But, the next time you are feeling anxious, don’t force yourself to stop, just refocus your thoughts on all the things The Lord has done for you.
Over time, you will notice your anxiety is less and you have a heart full of gratitude.
6. Thanking God for others
I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you,1 Corinthians 1:4-6
As I grow in my faith, one of the things that brings me so much joy is watching others grow in faith and walk with The Lord. It’s such a blessing to see others choose to follow The Lord and obey Him.
We have the opportunity to turn to The Lord in thanksgiving- thanking God for the work He has done in other people.
7. The Lord enriches us in everything
Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God,2 Corinthians 9:10-12
If you have been saves for a while, you may have heard this saying: you can sow the seed, but it’s The Lord that makes it grow.
Meaning, that we can put the work in serving and obey Him, but He is the one who brings fruit and life from what we do.
The Lord can take our offering and multiply it in ways we may never know.
8. The Lord has heard our voice
Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplications! 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.Psalm 28:6-7
This verse is one of many that reminds me God is a living God. One who hears us, knows us, and wants a relationship with us.
What an amazing God we have.
9. A sacrifice of thanksgiving
O Lord, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant; You have loosed my bonds. 17 I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the Lord.Psalm 116:16-17
When we come before The Lord and give thanks for who He is and what He has done, it’s a form of worship.
We are giving back what The Lord has given us and turning His good work into sacrifice and thanksgiving.
10. We are rooted in Him
As you, therefore, have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.Colossians 2: 6-7
Salvation is needed once, but walking with The Lord is choosing to listen to Him and follow Him every step of the way. As we grow in our faith, we can grow in our thanksgiving to Him.
