Jesus is The Son of God

As a Christian, it blows me away that Jesus is The Son of God. I am the proud mother of 3 children. I have 2 girls and a boy. My oldest daughter is 11 and is already talking about an exchange program that would take her to Japan for 2 weeks. The thought of her being on the other side of the planet for two weeks fills me with fear.

My love for my children makes it hard for me to understand how God could send His son to earth. Not just to live the perfect life, but to die a painful death. The only conclusion is that God loves us so much that He was willing to send His son to earth so that we might have a relationship with Him. That thought blows my mind.

In this post, I continue the blogging series: 12 powerful names of God. This week, I want to explore the fact that Jesus is The Son of God.

Jesus is the Son of God, Born in the flesh

Gabrielle came to Mary and told her what was to come.

She would conceive a son and He would be the son of God.

Luke 1:35 ESV And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Jesus came to earth as a baby and grew up with his family as a carpenter. At the age of 30, He stepped away from ” the family business” and started His early ministry.

We aren’t told much about His upbringing. I imagine the details are left out because His life was probably ordinary.

As a man, Jesus experienced everything as we did.

Jesus experienced

Hebrews 4:15  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

Jesus is Fully God

Even though Jesus was a man, He was also fully God. It’s hard for me to understand how both could be true at the same time. The Bible proves to us over and over that Jesus is the son of God. That explains all the wonderful things Jesus did on Earth.

Declared to be The son of God

The four gospels are full of evidence that Jesus was the son of God. He proved himself over and over again.

Not only do we see the evidence, but God Himself declares Jesus to be His son.

Matthew 17:5 ESV He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

John the Baptist was baptizing Jesus when the clouds opened and God declares that Jesus was His son.

It’s not clear from the passage if this declaration was heard by just John or by the whole audience.

I personally believe that every person in attendance heard God’s voice. I don’t have proof, but it just doesn’t make sense that God would reveal this truth to just John when John already knew who Jesus was.

Romans 1:4 ESV And was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

Conclusion

As a mortal woman, it’s hard for me to fully understand what it would have been like for Jesus to be fully man and fully God at the same time.

I would have been tempted to use my abilities to bring me comfort. But that’s not what we see Jesus doing.

His mission was to show God’s glory and give us understanding.

1 John 5:20 ESV And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

All of these verses just show that Jesus is the Son of God.

In the comments below, share the evidence from scripture you have found that proves Jesus is the Son of God.
