9 Tips for Creating Boundaries

1. Set a Defined Work Schedule
Establish clear start and end times for your workday. Stick to your schedule consistently.


2. Create a Dedicated Workspace:
Designate a specific area for work, separate from living spaces. Ensure your workspace is comfortable and free of distractions.


3. Establish Work-Free Zones

Keep work materials out of certain areas, such as the bedroom or living room. Use these spaces solely for relaxation and family activities.


4. Communicate Boundaries with Colleagues, Family and Friends
Communicate your work schedule and need for uninterrupted work time. Set expectations for response times outside of work hours. Involve them in your plans to ensure they respect your boundaries.

5. Use Technology Wisely
Turn off work notifications after hours. Use separate devices for work and personal use if possible.


6. Plan and Prioritize Tasks
Create a daily to-do list and prioritize tasks. Set realistic goals for what can be accomplished each day.


7. Take Regular Breaks
Schedule short breaks throughout the workday to recharge. Step away from your workspace during breaks.


8. Practice Saying No
Avoid taking on additional work tasks outside of your established hours. Prioritize your personal time and commitments.

I recently asked some Christian women what their number one obstacle was to reading their Bible. Many women responded with- distractions. It seems we all get distracted when we read The Bible. A great way to study focused while reading The Bible is to use a Bible Reading Plan. In this post, I will teach you how to Read The Bible using a Bible Reading Plan.

What Is A Bible Reading Plan


Simply put, a Bible Reading Plan is a list of Bible verses to read in a set number of days. 

The Bible Reading Plan can be digital- using a Bible reading app, or found on a website, or getting daily verses sent to our email inbox. 

Bible Reading Plans can also be physical- printing out copies and placing them in your Bible to follow along.

How To Read The Bible Using A Bible Reading Plan


While you read this post, you might find these steps elementary. But I’m choosing to address these steps because these are the moments that make it harder for people to read The Bible. 

I want to help you make it as easy as possible to read your Bible. Taking away simple barriers will help you read The Bible more regularly. 

The fewer barriers = you read your Bible often.

1. Choose A Bible Reading Plan 


One question I hear most often is where to start Reading the Bible. When you don’t know what to read, the changes are greater that you won’t read at all. Choosing and following a Bible reading plan will take the guesswork out of what you are reading. 

A Bible reading plan will tell you what to read each day of the week. 

The Best Way To Pick A Bible Reading Plan Is To Consider 2 Things.



There are many Bible reading plans out there. Each has different amounts of verses for you to read and will guide you through verses in different amounts of time. 

For example: in my Bible reading app there is 7-day Bible reading plans and also 350-day Bible reading plans and everything in between. 

So, take a minute and decide how many verses you want to read each day and how many days you want to follow The Bible Reading Plan. 



The next thing to consider is what topic you want to read about. If you want to read The Bible in a year- choose a plan that will help you do that. 

If you want to read about The Character of God- choose a Bible Reading Plan that will help you learn more about who God is.

2. Put Your Bible Reading Plan In An Accessible Spot


Anytime I want to read my Bible, I can get easily distracted by finding my Bible and my reading plan. If these items are not in an easy-to-find spot- I can see another task I want to complete and choose not to read The Bible that day. 

To help change this, I placed my Bible and my Bible Reading Plan in the same spot. Somewhere I could access easily and can remember without worrying that my Bible and my kids will destroy notes.

I like to place my Bible and notebook on a bookshelf in the living room. I spend most of the day in the living room so I can easily access what I need. 

Not only that, but seeing the Bookshelf reminds me I want to read The Bible that day.

3. Find The Right Verse To Read For The Day 


Now that you have the Bible Reading plan and you have put it in a safe + accessible spot- it’s time to use the plan. 

Most reading plans give you verse references to read each day. 

There are a few ways this can be done, but for simplicity’s sake, let’s pretend it’s the first day of September 2022. 

Take out your Bible reading plan and find the right month and date. 

This can be a specific date, or you can read the first reference on the first day of the month and so on.

4. Find The Verse 


Once you have found the right day in your Bible reading plan, it’s time to find the verse and read it. 

To find your verse- take out a physical Bible, an online Bible, or a Bible app. 

Find the chapter, then the verse/s.

Once you have found the verse, now it’s time to read it. Some Bible reading plans only have a couple of verses for you to read each day. 

When that’s the case, I like to read it over a couple of times so that I can meditate on it and what it means to me. 

Once you have read the verse, you can take Bible Reading to the next level and take some time to understand what it means. 

You can do this by asking a few key questions or using a Bible study method to help grasp a better understanding of the verse.


6. Track Your Progress


Our minds were created to LOVE winning. I can’t tell you how much I love checking something off my to-do list. I even got a planner that small boxes I could check!

A dedicated space for reading your Bible and praying is not just a physical location; it’s a profound symbol of your commitment to your spiritual journey. 



It can serve as a retreat from the noise and distraction, it saves you time by having all your tools ready in one space. It also helps you be more mindful, consistent, and focused. A dedicated space helps you foster a deeper connection with God. 




I. Following Jesus’ Example: 



When we read the New Testament, we see how Jesus would go off to a quiet place to pray and spend time with his Father. 



There are a few examples of this in The New Testament, but I will only share one with you today. 



  • Mark 1:35 (NKJV) Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place, and there He prayed.

In this verse, Jesus had spent the day before healing all the sick. The verses don’t say how long He had spent healing the sick, but the verses do say- after a long night. 



When I read that, it made me think that Jesus had spent most of the day and night healing all the sick. 



After this time, he left for a quiet place to pray. Once He spent that time, He was ready to continue His mission.

The Bible is also called The Word of God. That fact alone tells us the importance of the book. 


Let’s pretend that there is a great treasure to be found and you have the treasure map. What would you do? 


My guess is that you would spend hours every day looking at the map for details and clues.


Soon, you would know that map like the back of your hand and could recall details of it anywhere you went. 


The Bible is like a large treasure map. It holds the details of life, death and the secret to living eternally.  


But The Bible isn’t just about that, it’s so much more! 


1. The Bible shows us God’s character


I don’t have the privilege to say that I met Jesus when He walked on earth. I wasn’t able to follow Him as He travelled from town to town. But, what I do have, is God’s word. 


The Bible says that Jesus is the word of God- meaning that The Bible reflects God Himself. 


John 1:1-3, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.


Since I can’t go back in time- to know God more, I can read The Bible. The Bible tells us about how God created the world, how He saved the nation of Israel and most importantly- it tells me of how He came to save us. 


Through scripture, we see How God makes promises and keeps them. We learn that God has a bigger plan- even when we can’t see it. We see how faithful God is, how powerful He is and so much more. 


If we want to know God more, He is on every page of The Bible. All we need to do is read it.

2. The Bible contains a life-changing message 


Not only does The Bible reveal to us parts of God’s character, it also gives us a life-changing message. 


Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; 


This verse tells us that the penalty for sin is death. 


Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;


Meaning that every single human on earth has sinned. Since we have all sinned, each of us deserves to die.

This is not a popular message, but it’s what we find in The Bible. 

This truth is bad news. Thankfully- it doesn’t stop there. I only read part of the verse- there’s more


Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.


The Bible tells us of our penalty, but also about our way out. Jesus came to earth to pay for our debt- He took our punishment by dying on the cross for us. 

This is a life-changing message. In a moment, we go from being convicted of death to being freed by accepting The Lord’s sacrifice. 



3. The Bible reveals the Truth


Some people believe that truth is relative. But, using the same logic used in that statement- would mean the statement may not be true. 


Try to wrap your head around that one. When I was in university I took a lot of philosophy- enough to make my head spin. 


The one thing I walked away with was this- many people think they have found the truth and can explain the whole world. Only to then be disproven or be taken over by the next idea. 


We all want to know what the truth is. The word of God tells us that God is truth and that we can find truth in Him. 


1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.


This statement gives a good summary of the Bible- God is true, and He is the true God.

4. The Bible gives us Hope 


If you watch the news, then you know the world is full of darkness and tragedy. Everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong.


But, as Christians, we have great hope. 


Romans 5:1-5 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.


The hope we have isn’t in having an easy life- the Bible never promises us that. But we have the Hope of heaven- that one day we will be with The Lord in heaven and He will reign and bring everything under His feet and make everything right. 


This hope has carried me through many dark days and I’m sure more dark days to come. 



5. The Bible shows us our Purpose 


As Christians, our purpose is to glorify The Lord. That means that everything we do should reflect God in a good light.


Not only that but we are also given a great commission.


Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.


The Lord Jesus tells us to tell others about Him. 


As a stay-at-home mom, I often felt like I wasting my time holding babies and changing their diapers. But, over time The Lord has shown me that I have the important job of showing and telling my kids about The Lord and His love for us. 


That means that even if all I do is love my family and reflect God’s love for them- I’m fulfilling the great commission.

6. The Bible helps direct our path


As a mother of 3, I often have no clue what to do next or where to go. My kids are all in full-day school and I’m left with the question- what do you want to be when you grow up? 


For the past year, I have tried to go back into teaching with no success. It’s been tempting to be completely frustrated and upset that things haven’t worked out— or- I can trust what The Word of God says. 


  • Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
  • Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.


I have no clue what the next year holds for me. But, I know that God knows exactly where I’m going and the path to get me there.



7. Reading The Bible shows our devotion


My oldest daughter loves the musical Hamilton. She has gone to see it live on stage, has watched the movie at least 50 times, and knows all the words to all the songs.


She spends time doing all these things because she LOVES the musical. 


When we love something, we spend time watching it, talking about it, and reading everything we can about it. 


The same can be said about The Bible. When we say we love The Lord, our action proves our word. 


The act of reading The Bible won’t save us, but it does show how seriously we take it and is one way we can show our love to The Lord.

As Christians, we know that our relationship with God is a central part of our lives. But with busy schedules, it can be difficult to stay connected with Him on a daily basis. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of 11 ways to connect with God on the go. 1. Listen To Worship Music On Your Commute



For the past 12 years, I have NOT had a commute because I stayed home with the kids. But I recently started working where I spend 1-2 hours in the car once or twice a week.

Most people might think this commute is long, but I love it.

I use my commute to listen to worship music, pray, and sit in silence.

Being intentional about my commute has helped me feel good about the time I spend in the car, instead of feeling like I’m wasting my time.



2. Say A Prayer Of Gratitude As Soon As You Wake Up


One of the things I love about prayer is that you can pray at any time, any place regardless of what else is going on.

I’m not a morning person, so I don’t naturally wake up and think about praying. But, it is a good practice to incorporate prayer into your day.

You can pray as you work around the house, commute to and from anywhere you go, and add prayer to your family times such as dinner and bedtime.

3. Meditate On A Scripture Verse During Your Lunch Break


My mind usually runs a mile a minute filled with all the things I need to do. This usually leads me to more stress.

What helps my mind to calm down is to think about something else.

The Bible tells us to meditate on God’s word.

  • Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

One way I’ve done this is by writing a verse or 2 on cue cards. I then put that card in my purse and take it out to read. This process helps me memorize it.

Then, once I’ve memorized the verse, I can meditate on it anywhere I go.



4. Write Down Your Prayers Or Reflections


Whether I’m listening to a podcast, reading Christian blogs, scrolling Instagram, listening to a sermon, or doing my own Bible reading– Anytime a verse catches me or opens a question I want to look into further- I make a note.

I usually have my phone with me, so I either open my notes app or my Google Docs app and write the verse and the thoughts/ideas I had related to that question.

I might go back to it, or I might not- BUT, the action of taking a minute to write it down and my thoughts help the verse stick in my mind longer.

Not only can you do this with Bible verses, but you can do the same with prayers and prayer requests.

5. Take A Moment To Pray Before Making An Important Decision


As a Christian, I know I should pray before any major decision, but I sometimes have a hard time putting this into practice.

After many years of being a Christian, it’s always better to pray about something FIRST, and then go do what The Lord has called us to do.

Recently, the church’s youth group started planning a summer trip to Mexico. As soon as my daughter heard about this trip, she was set on going.

My husband and I never made any promises but went to the information meetings and learned more about the tri. As the time came closer to decide- I felt uneasy.

I knew this trip was a good opportunity for my daughter, but we had never sat down to pray about whether or not she should go.

So, my husband, daughter and I sat down and talked about the trip, and prayed together.

Our daughter was so adamant about going, I was sure we were headed for fights about this trip in the future.

After a couple of weeks, I noticed I had peace about our daughter not going on this trip, and planning a family trip instead.

I brought this up with my husband and he felt the same.

We knew we needed to bring this up with our daughter. We were expecting a fight and were surprised by what happened next.

When we sat down and explained ourselves and what we wanted to do, she was prepared for our answer. The Lord had given her peace about not going and prepared her heart for our answer!!

This was such a good parenting lesson for me.

We didn’t push our agenda. We didn’t follow our daughter and what she wanted. Instead, we prayed as a group and let The Lord work in each of our lives to bring us to the same conclusion! This is the power of prayer!

The Lord wants us to come to Him and ask what He wants us to do. When we do, He does direct us.



6. Listen To A Podcast Or Sermon During Your Workout 


I love life hacks that help me do 2 things at once. If you work out, a great way to spend time in prayer or learning about God’s word is to listen to scripture, sermons, or worship music when you work out.

Even if you are not 100% paying attention to what you are listening to, your unconscious thoughts are being filled with the truth of scripture or being blessed by the worship you listened to.

7. Use A Bible App To Read A Chapter Or Verse During Your Morning Coffee


Growing up, reading The Bible on the go meant bringing a Bible with you wherever you went.

I’m a bit ashamed to share this, but I was always shy about taking out my Bible in public and reading it. I felt self conscious and spent most of that time worried about what people thought of me- instead of what I was reading.

These days, it’s so much easier to read God’s word, because we can access it through apps. I’ve downloaded YouVersion Bible app on my phone and use it to read scripture on the go.

It’s so easy to read a verse or more at lunch, or when I’m waiting for something.



8. Reflect On God’s Blessings During A Walk Outside


I grew up in an area full of rolling hills, and not too far from mountains. Even though I have seen my fait share of mountains, every single time I see them- they take my breath away.

My family actually makes fun of me because I often gasp when I see them. At first, my husband thought there was something wrong. But it’s my natural response to God’s creation.

The Bible tells us that creation shows us God’s glory.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.

If you spend any time outdoors, take a minute to really look at it and think about God- the one who created everything around us.

Enjoying nature is an easy way to think about The Lord throughout the day.

9. Focus On God’s Presence In The Moment


I often get caught up in the day-to-day events that I don’t always take advantage of the audience I can hold with The God of the universe at any time I want.

As Christians, we have direct access to the Throne room- yet how often do we remember that?

So, to help me be more mindful- I’ll picture myself standing in a great hall in front of God who is sitting on His throne.

That image helps me be more mindful of who God is, but also about the relationship I have with Him. It’s not full of customs and expectations- but one that is personal. A God who knows me and wants me to talk to Him about everything.

When I have that mindset- It’s easier to feel His presence and enjoy being with Him.



10. Use An App To Set Reminders For Prayer Time


I enjoy praying for people. It makes me feel useful when there is nothing else I can do. But, I often times say I’ll pray for someone, and then forget.

So, a few years ago, I started setting reminders on my phone to pray for people.

If I knew someone was having surgery, I would find out the time and make an event in my phone calendar.

That way, when the day comes, a notice pops up on my phone telling me to pray for a certain person about a certain thing.

This simple step has helped me take action and actually pray for people- not just say I’ll pray for them.

11. Start A Gratitude Jar And Add Something You’re Thankful For Each Day


f you don’t have a lot of time, a simple way to remember God is to have a gratitude jar.

Anytime you feel thankful for something- write it down and put that piece of paper in a jar.

Over time, the jar will fill up. This then becomes physical evidence for all the things you are thankful for.

The simple act of looking at a full jar will draw your heart to God in gratitude.

My mom does something like this. Instead of paper, she will write keywords on stone and places those stones in a jar. They are her reminder stones.

They remind her of God’s faithfulness and promises.
